Chinese do not consider Johnston suitable

secretary but would like to have him on the Executive Committee. They suggest and I agree that appointment of secretary be left to Committee subject to approval

of advisory committee.

As regards place of meeting Shanghai is for the time being unsuitable end Chinese suggest Tientsin as a compromise. I agree: in any case this might be left for committee to decide according to convenience

of members.
